What does FORS accreditation cost?
FORS publishes its fees, which makes this an unusually answerable question. The scheme fee is an annual subscription based on your total fleet size, from £40 excluding VAT for a single vehicle up to £2,350 for a fleet over 100, plus an audit fee per operating centre, £468 at the standard Bronze rate. What nobody publishes is the second half: the vehicle equipment, telematics, training and management time needed to actually pass. FORS publishes its UK fee schedule, so the scheme half of the cost can be looked up rather than guessed. Your total is an annual subscription based on total vehicles in scope, plus an audit fee based on the number of operating centres accredited. Every figure below excludes VAT, as FORS states them.

The cost of meeting the FORS Standard itself, meaning equipment, telematics, training and management time, is not published by anyone and is not in this table.

- The standard FORS Bronze audit fee is £468 excluding VAT per operating centre, or £519 with audit protection, which FORS says includes one free follow-up audit if the audit is unsuccessful.

Is FORS a legal requirement?
No. The FORS Standard describes FORS as a voluntary accreditation scheme. Operators pursue it because customers, contracts and tenders specify it, not because any statute requires it.
What are the FORS levels?
Bronze, Silver and Gold. The FORS Standard states there are three accreditation levels and that each builds on the requirements of the levels beneath it, so Silver requires meeting every Bronze requirement and Gold requires meeting Silver.
Are there FORS discounts for charities or councils?
Yes. FORS discounts the annual subscription to £420 excluding VAT for registered charities with 11 to 25 vehicles and to £750 for charities with 26 or more, and to £750 for public and local authorities with 26 or more vehicles, with some on-site audits free each year.
Does the FORS fee cover the equipment and training needed to pass?
No. The published fees cover the subscription and the audit. Vehicle safety equipment, telematics, driver and manager training, and the management time to keep documentation reviewed every 12 months are all separate and are not published by anyone.
